Who we are

Melinda & Laura have been friends for years and comics for longer. Both are successful in TV, film & web & they love passing along what they've learned.

WHO is teaching this amazing class? 

 

Laura House is a comic, writer, and meditation teacher who starred in Mtv’s Austin Stories, and performed stand-up on HBO, Comedy Central, and NBC. A WGA member, she’s written on lots of TV shows, including Blue Collar TV, The George Lopez Show, SAMANTHA WHO?, MAD LOVE, Rosie and MOM (starring Anna Faris & Allison Janney). She’s created and Executive-Produced a pilot for Nickelodeon and has had projects in development at ABC (with Barry Sonnenfeld directing) and FX (with Katey Sagal producing). Laura is a favorite comic and storyteller around Los Angeles and has works in several books, including the well-reviewed TRUE TALES OF LUST AND LOVE and her book of personal essays “Hungry” will come out in 2016. She just got back from the illustrious Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland where she performed with such luminaries as Dana Gould and Janeane Garofalo. She just concluded a run of sold out HOW TO HATE YOURSELF shows at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.


Melinda Hill is an award-winning comedian, WGA writer and actress who created, wrote, produced and starred in the hit web series ROMANTIC ENCOUNTERS WITH MELINDA HILL, ALL GROWZ UP and THE PROGRAM with Maria Bamford for Funny or Die. THE PROGRAM was named one of LA Weekly’s “10 best web series of 2014” while ROMANTIC ENCOUNTERS was recognized for outstanding acting and writing by LA Weekly Web Awards, LA Web Fest, IndieWire, Funny or Die’s “Make em Laff” contest and more.

She voices multiple characters on the Emmy winning series Adventure Time and is the other half of the viral hit Confessions of a Tooth Fairy with Kristen Wiig. Other TV/ film appearances include Comedy Central's Pretend Time with Nick Swardson, Reno 911, Sarah Silverman Program, Important Things with Demetri Martin, Bill Maher's Bright Day, The Winner, Frank TV, Glory Daze, and Chris Kattan's Bollywood Hero. Her stand up has been featured on Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Bonnie Hunt Show, BBC's World Stands Up, NESN's Comedy All Stars, Comics Unleashed, Who Wants To Date a Comedian, Stand Up In Stilettos ABC and when she hosted the series Comedy TV.

Her monthly show "What's Up, Tiger Lily" at UCB was named "best stand up show" in LA Weekly & LAist and her critically acclaimed CD "The Accidental Bisexual" is available on iTunes. She's a regular contributor for Huffington Post Comedy, XOJane and Hellogiggles and her humorous essays have also been featured in LA Weekly, LA Innuendo & Opium Magazine. She is a teacher at UCLA Extension Writers Program and her former students have been featured on Jimmy Kimmel, CBS, Huffington Post, CNN, E!, Gawker & are currently rocking it all over this great city.
