Sure, I hear meditation is great.

But what can it do for me?

Really good question.  It makes your life better.

The body goes into a state of deep rest, where it restores itself.  And stress is released.  This leads to more ease and rest, feeling more relaxed & focused.
The physical benefits are well-documented.  Blood pressure lowers, the body ages more slowly, even backwards, in a sense.

Vedic Meditation is an ancient practice that originated in India.
It’s twenty minutes twice a day, it’s effortless, and works for everyone.  You get a mantra that resonates with you, and you sort of drop out and experience bliss.  The mind frees up, sure, but even cooler:  the body gets rest that’s deeper than sleep and releases stress. Like old stress, gross stress, bothering me since-I-was-two stress.  Out!!  There’s release and relief, making us better able to deal with life’s bleh-stuff such as, but not limited to: traffic, break-ups, parents, kids (all family members), deadlines, bills, etc.
happier days.  Bliss.

IS MEDITATION RIGHT FOR ME?

I think so, but find out for yourself.
It works for everyone.  No skill needed.
You can find out about this practice by going to an interest talk.  I have them, so do tons of other teachers, 1 hours, totally free.  You can also read what David lynch says about it in his book 'Catching the Big Fish.’

BUT I'M NOT RELIGIOUS!

I’m not either.  It’s not a religion, it’s a practice, like yoga.  Some people approach yoga as devout yogi’s, others do it at 24 hour fitness so they look better in jeans.
It works either way.  For any religion, atheism, non-religion, trekkies.  Anyone.
One friend put it this way, “It’s like a massage, you don’t have to believe in it for it to work.

OKAY BUT I CAN'T STOP THINKING!!

Good!  There’s only one way to stop thinking and I don’t recommend it.
Trying to get thoughts out of the mind is like trying to get wet out of the ocean.  It’d be time-consuming and expensive, and in the end - why bother?
Thoughts are a part of this meditation.  But, you also transcend them.  Meaning, in this practice, because of the positive effect that the mantra has, you have thoughts, but they don’t have you.

HOW DO I FIND A TEACHER?

CONGRATS!  I'm a teacher.  It takes a short 4-day (about 90 minutes each day) course to learn Vedic meditation, then it's yours for life.  Contact me (imlaurahouse@gmail.com) if you're interested in hearing about the course.  You can come to a totally free Intro Talk, get your questions answered & if you want to take the course, we'll set it up.  Or, if our schedules or locations don't make that easy, I'm glad to recommend a teacher near you.
